The Gospel of Consumption

Shopping – Private cars were relatively scarce in 1919 and horse-drawn conveyances were still common. In residential districts, electric streetlights had not yet replaced many of the old gaslights. And within the home, electricity remained largely a luxury item for the wealthy.

this is an extremely important article that could be the basis of on-going group conversations. it reminds us that we really do have choices about many things we pretend we don't have choices about.
